    Dilby

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Dylan SybenLocation: Berlin, Germany

    Biography

Dilby is taking the House Music world by storm with his unique Deep and Tech sound. His original productions and remixes regularly feature in the Top 100 charts on Beatport his recent hit Tears was #12 on the coveted Deep House Chart and #61 on the store’s Overall Chart. This has already been followed up by a string of chart climbing singles in 2015. As well as gaining chart success, Dilby’s music is regularly charted and played by top DJ’s ranging from legends like Danny Tenaglia and DJ Sneak to modern frontrunners like Maceo Plex, Claptone and Hot Since 82. You can find him on a selection of amazing record labels including Mother Recordings, Bondage Music, Glasgow Underground, Toolroom and more.

Dilby’s creative passion for electronic music keeps him busy in the studio. His tunes champion a signature groove and attention to detail that sets them apart from the crowd. His music is crafted from a classic house and techno pallet but presented with a fresh, modern and individual aesthetic. They are full of rich musical influences; from dub to progressive rock, ambient and tribal rhythms, but rest assured, they’re aimed squarely at the dance floor.

New Zealand born, Dilby lives and breathes house music. From a young age Dilby has been obsessed with hunting and collecting music and has always been passionate about sharing these treasures with others. This is evident in his DJ sets which span genres and create an infectious and hypnotic groove on the dance floor.

Dilby was first introduced to underground electronic music through the rave scene of the 90’s. His excitement and passion for everything house grew until he began DJing in early 2001. Since then he has not looked back and continues to grow and evolve his sound and skills on the decks. Dilby has played the best clubs and festivals all over New Zealand including and has shared the stage with the many of the world’s top DJ’s along his journey.

After making the move to Berlin in 2012 he quickly rose through the ranks to become a regular favorite in the house and techno mecca’s top clubs. Now you can catch him entertaining crowds across Europe where his sets have are very well received in many of the top clubs as well as festivals such as Off Sonar and ADE.

    Questions

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“This is a funny one because people love to define, re-define and over define electronic music. As a DJ, I just say I play "house music". That could range from something ethereal chordal and ethereal from Delano Smith to something big and pounding by Whebba. As far as my productions go, I'll leave that up to the listener to define.”

    2. How did you learn producing?

“I had been DJing for a few years and my roommate at the time gave me a copy of Reason which he was using to make Drum’n’Bass. I just started to mess around and tried to figure it out. Thinking back, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing! Over the years I have just taught myself how to get what I want out of that I have to work with. I guess now I almost know what I'm doing.”

    3. DAW?

“I use Ableton Live. I've tried other DAW's but I just find that they are over complicated and the lack of intuition stands in the way a little bit.”

    4. What is your trademark?

“That's hard to say to be honest. As I said before, I have a pretty broad taste in "house music" and this means I have a lot of different influences when I am working on music.”

    5. Dream collab?

“I guess it would be with a vocalist. Jamie Woon has such an amazing voice and delivery, it would be awesome to do something with him. And for a female, Lauren Hill would be incredible to get on a record or Donna Summer (RIP) would have been crazy to get to work with.”

    6. What makes dance music so special to you?

“The fact that I am able to do this as a job makes me so happy. I used to work in an office job that I didn't really love and that didn't make me happy. Now I get to wake up everyday and do what I love! I feel very lucky for that.”

    7. What keeps you going?

“The thought of going back to work in an office job, haha! But seriously, I am very progression oriented which I guess comes from my years spent skateboarding and snowboarding. This was very progression focused for me. I always wanted to learn the next trick, go higher, etc. I guess in a way this is the same mind set that keeps me going with music. The drive to push myself to progress in some way.”

    8. Next release?

“Up next is ‘Dilby & FreedomB - The System EP’ is coming out end of November on Under No Illusion. We have already had some amazing feedback and support from some of the biggest names in the game so I'm really excited for this one! I also have releases coming soon on Bondage Music and What Happens.”

    Cioz

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Alessandro CozzolinoLocation: Bergamo, Italy

    Biography

Cioz is an Italian producer and DJ class '92 from Bergamo (Italy). His passion in producing music is shaping sound: He likes a lot to synthesize his sounds instead of choosing from a library and he also loves to make everything sound right by giving to all sounds the greatest importance while mixing.
In May 2015 he came out in the electronic music world with the single Heartbreaker produced with Kres for the label KDB Records. This track was played several times by the Spanish DJ Wally Lopez. In October 2015 his first EP "Scrambled" was released on the label EIN2, son of Einmusika which has artists like Acid Pauli, Solee and Betoko.
He received support from big producers that played his tracks all around the world (Betoko in Mexico, Blancah in Brazil, Rafael Cerato in Germany).
So he started his adventure at Bauhaus Party (Bergamo) playing the first time before Coloppio, another time before Marco Resmann and in 2016 before his idol Rodriguez Jr.
In September 2015 he started a side project called "Knobs Bergamo" where he began to experiment with live electronic music. Not only is this to be a platform for live music education but it also acts as a network, bringing together guests from all over Italy to meet and collaborate. This is a net of producers and musicians that play together in a live show creating a music that merges similar styles and binds them together. This project brought him to play at "Teatro Donizetti" on May 2016 for an European event called "Spring Agorà" by AEGEE.
On the 30th of June he released another EP on the Amsterdam label Subjekt Recordings, a great sub label of Armada Music which can count on artists like N'to, Martin Roth and Pete Oak. He later remixed Ante Perry's “The Drive” also on the Einmusika's little sister "EIN2".
He is happy to collaborate with everyone who loves making music. His motto which he read somewhere is "if I share an apple with you we will have two half apple, if I share an idea with you we will have both two ideas".
Artists that inspire him are: Paul Kalkbrenner, Rodriguez Jr., James Holden, Acid Pauli, Moderat, Stimming, Max Cooper, David August, Nicolas Jaar, Einmusik, Stephan Bodzin and Tipper.

    Questions

    1. Most exciting club moment?

“It was last February 26th (2016) at Bauhaus Party, the party where I am ‘resident’ in my city Bergamo. I played just before Marco Resmann. He was playing fantastically while, suddenly, almost in the end of his set, he turned his head and asked me: ‘You play with me?’ I was like petrified. I went next to him and we did a little b2b! That night he gave me an important lesson of humility. He is a great person.”

    2. How did you learn producing?

“I am totally self-taught. At the beginning I simply watched some tutorials, then I started to experiment and play with very basic sounds. When I bought my first monitors everything changed. I focused on mixing, synthesizing and sampling. Collaborating with other producers was very constructive too: You learn a lot from others and vice versa.”

    3. Favorite track at the moment/all time?

“Right now, my favorite track was recently released by Einmusika. It is ‘Jonas Saalbach - Ancient Lake feat. Paul Klatt (Sébastien Léger Remix)’. Fresh, dreamy and sexy.
The best track of all time? I would say ‘Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink (James Holden remix)’. And I do not need to explain why. Just try to listen to it.”

    4. Dream collab?

    “Paris Hilton.
    Just joking, definitely Rodriguez Jr.”

    5. Favorite DJ Setup?

“It depends. When I DJ I usually use a pair of Pioneer 2000 and a Allen & Heat x-one 92. But this is not my only setup. In fact, this year I have started an experiment based on live music. The project is called ‘Knobs Bergamo’ - check the page on FB. I founded it together with other three artists. Our purpose is to create a platform for live electronic music education and a wide network. We try to bring together producers and musicians of every kind in order to meet, collaborate and jam together organizing public shows. It is unbelievable how useful and magic the moment of improvisation is. By the way, my setup in this case is totally different and it is also the same setup I use in my studio: I use a Launchpad to record clips, a Korg Nanokontrol where I mapped an Ableton sampler creating a sort of ‘analog-feeling’ digital synthesizer, an Akai LPD8 which I use for playing and choosing drums, and finally an Elektron Analog 4 to create synths, basses, accents, arpeggios or atmos on the fly.”

    6. What keeps you going?

“1) My family: They never interfered between me and my music.
    2) The neighbors: They have always been patients with me and it is not a simple thing. They are probably ‘saints’.
    3) My friends: They keep me going always with my head straight.
    4) All the new musicians I meet: They all create a musical interactions and inspiration starts to grow.”

    7. You in 10 years?

“I do not imagine myself tomorrow, how can I imagine me in 10 years? By the way I wish to own a label and play around the world. I know it is a long long way though but I deeply enjoy what I am doing. It is my life.”

    8. What do you listen to besides electronic music?

    9. What distinguishes you and your music from other artists?

“I try to be eclectic and to fill my tracks with emotions. Because of this, probably in the future all my tracks will speak of nice memories. Thus, while I am listening to one track of mine, I somehow live again a precise period of my life. Producing is for me a way to communicate my feelings.”

    10. How would you describe your sound?

    “Alive.”

    11. Who will considerably give direction to the scene soon?

“I do not know who, but I know what! The new technological progress will also give a new direction. Only who innovates himself will ride the wave.”

    12. DAW?

“Ableton forever. Playing live is the future. Everyone can customize his setup. I think every producer should try to jam live. You can shape your idea in a couple of minutes.”

    13. here would you love to play live?

    “At Burning Man.”

    14. What do you think about DIT KLINGT JUT?

“It is a form of expression, and it summons feelings and memories. It is an invisible wire that goes from brain to sounds.”

I am a self-taught producer and it was not an easy journey for me - but no one ever said it would be.”

    Leftwing & Kody

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Jon Kong, Chris AdieLocation: London, United Kingdom

    Biography

Since forming in 2012, Leftwing & Kody have gone on to become two of the UK’s finest exports.
Both Mixmag and DJ Mag named them as ones to watch a mere year after they paired up, with DJ Mag even nominating them for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ in their Best of British Awards. Since then the duo have gone on to present a monthly Rinse FM show, earn residencies at Fabric (London) and Sankeys (Ibiza), as well as releases on Hot Creations, VIVa, Knee Deep In Sound, Suara, MadTech, as well as their own renowned imprint Lost Records.
It’s fair to say Leftwing & Kody, real names Jon Kong and Chris Adie, have made it look easy, but it’s their determination and diligence that’s helped them prosper so rapidly in such a short time. A debut release on Andre Crom’s OFF Recordings instantly placed them in the limelight, soon followed by appearances on Alive Recordings and Exploited, before a mammoth release on Anjunadeep a year later. Before long support from the upper echelons of house and techno quickly burgeoned, with Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, James Zabiela, Maya Jane Coles, Loco Dice, Steve Lawler, Adam Beyer, Nic Fanciulli and Huxley continually advocating their productions throughout the years.
Before long the pair had launched Lost Records, before kick-starting it with a lauded release from Darius Syrossian. Paul Mad

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Pal CsikosLocation: Budapest, Hungary

    Biography

Hungarian DJ Paul Mad belongs to the small group of DJ’s who are classically trained in not one but two instruments. Combine this background with his more traditional influences of electronic music and you have an artist who’s gained an intimate knowledge of the moods attainable through dynamics, clarity and melody, and has since made those elements cornerstones to his signature sound. This pursuit, ongoing since 2002, has resulted in a style spectrum that is extremely wide but that specializes in music that is dark, rhythmic, deep, and of course techy. This style allows for Paul to experiment, which he loves to do, as well as achieve his top priorities when performing: creating the perfect atmosphere and connecting with the crowd.

    Questions

    1. How did you learn producing?

“My first encounter with software was in 2002. I found it somewhere online, it was called Orion which was a really simple program. I just put random drums and other samples like natural sounds and different voices on there. Funny times. I made a lot of stuff. Track by track but all of them were a big mess. The only point for me was that I can just make my own sound, with my own rhythms. After it I looked for other software and tried to learn to use them by myself like rebirth, e-jay, fruity loops and reason. Nowadays I am using Ableton and learning Logic. The last year I totally gave up to work with samples and vsts. It was very boring and not too inspiring to still click with the mouse after 12 years. So I started to buy some gear and learned how to make music with analog sound, which is not so static and much more fun. You can make more organic sounds and very interesting things. So step by step I tried to build up my little studio. This is a never ending learning.”

    2. Favorite DJ setup?

“I think you can make good and bad sets with 2 CDJs, turntables or laptops. The only thing which is important is the music that you play.”

    3. What keeps you going?

“Producing and making high quality music as much as I can. It starts with experiments in sounds and comes to how can I connect this with my gear to create something interesting. I just started my new project which will be a vinyl label. The first few releases will be only with PM originals. The first EP is ready so the next step is finishing the second and third EP and start the process with the pressing asap.”

    4. Next release?

“My next release will be a vinyl VA track on the Sunday Mornings Records, which is a new sub label from Kanja Recods. Also I would like to mention my last release on Cadenza Lab. I was very happy when I got the request from Lucien. I remember the first few days I could not believe that. After the release I got a lot of good feedback and support so hopefully this is a good start to the next level and something new.”

    5. What do you listen to besides electronic music?

“I like the instrumental music, I almost listen to any kind of music if I can find something interesting in it.”

    6. DAW?

“Ableton/Logic. For me it is much easier to edit the recording parts in Ableton but the final mixed track coming out from Logic.”

    7. What makes dance music so special to you?

“I can present myself through dance music. It makes me happy everyday if I can produce something new, something what I never did before. I can say platitudes but the dance music is for me self-expression. Sends out some interesting feelings from inside.”

Full Name: Péter Szigeti, Gergely SárdiLocation: Budapest, Hungary

    Biography

Peter Makto has been delivering unforgettable performances to the international community for so long that his name is now automatically associated with quality wherever he goes. For proof of such a claim, one need not look any further than has trophy mantle at home; he’s won the Hungary DJ of the year three times, in 2006, 2008, and 2009.
Gregory S. has spent nearly all of his life immersed in the electronic music world, his broad tastes and years of diverse experiences having now resulted in him being proudly categorized as an “unclassifiable” DJ himself.

Fortunately, we don’t have to fantasize because they’ve done it themselves, in real life. Lifelong friends who are twins when it comes to their horoscopes, Peter and Gregory have been collaborating for as long as they can remember and have created an unbreakable bond in music, a bond that speaks for itself when Peter and Gregory are performing together producing together, or remixing together.

    Questions

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“It is a mix of the classic deep house and modern synth based electronic music with distinctive roots in the groovy tech house which gives life to our tracks. By the help of this huge melting pot we can produce easy stuffs one day and peak time bangers on the other.”

    2. How did you learn producing?

“We begun studying the basics a few years ago on our own and then we started searching for good tutorials. For example Sante’s Producer Tech tutorial helped a lot to find the best ways in mixing and creating beats.”

    3. Most exciting club moment?

“We have played at many places and many clubs already but the most exciting experiences we got were in Berlin at Kater Blau. We started our set at 3AM and we could play a really nice deep set with an evolving build up till 6AM. It was a pleasure for our DJ soul, and the audience was very patient and they followed us into those deep vibes.”

    4. Where would you love to play live?

“Our biggest dream is definitely the Warung Beach in Brazil. Besides that of course we love the openminded atmosphere of Berlin as well. But if we want to be honest the answer would be simple: we would like to play everywhere where we are invited, because we love discovering different cultures and seeing their reactions to our music.”

    5. What is your trademark?

“The surprisingly varied DJ sets and the catchy grooves in our productions.”

    6. What distinguishes you and your music from other artists?

“The different personalities we have give a nice taste to our productions. You can easily recognize the individual footprints in our sound because our taste is not perfectly the same and this usually creates an exciting and unique atmosphere on the dancefloor. And we are not afraid to change the mood at a club with minor changes between the genres if we think that it is necessary. Sometimes an unexpectable move to another direction is the best thing that could happen to a party.”

    7. What makes you laugh?

“Everything can be funny. Usually we laugh a lot, we are easy guys! We both are obsessed with the Monty Python style puns.”

    16. You in 10 years?

“Greg will be lost in the Studio with a lot of equipment around him and Peter will be an old hippy as a burned out junkie with 2 turntables and a mixer constantly listening to vinyls. Seriously, we would like to be in the scene as successful artists and to care about talents of course.”

    17. What keeps you going?

“Going forward with the new influences, doing forever the job we love, being happy in this scene and seeing the world by the help of music.”

    Luis Hill

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Luis HillLocation: Berlin, Germany

    Biography

Born and raised in Berlin, Luis explored many different musical styles, starting with Hip Hop, when he began hosting internet radio shows at the age of 12. Over the next 3 years, he discovered the wonders of four-to-the-floor electronic music, with which he ultimately fell in love.
At the age of 16, he started playing for larger crowds, and later emerged into the Berlin club scene. There, he made a name for himself as a young artist, having played at clubs like Ritter Butzke, Maria, Golden Gate and Arena Club.
In 2010, he moved to Rotterdam. Within a few months, he found himself behind the decks of Club Catwalk, Bootleg DJ-Café, and had started his own party series, Rotterlin: a combination of underground electronic music from Rotterdam and Berlin. During 2011 his gigs spread across Europe to France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.
In 2012, he got together with Marc Poppcke to work on Marc's newly founded label Crossfrontier Audio. Aside from various label management activities, the label also allowed him to musically unfold, which led to two his first EP together with Marc Poppcke (CFA007) and his first solo remix (CFA010). With a growing number of gigs, he could also add Spain, Romania and Switzerland to his list countries where he played.
His music is driven by warm and deep sounds and groovy bass lines. Whether it's the peak-time, warmup or in the early hours of the morning, his style adapts to what the people are feeling - and it keeps them going. Luis Hill plays the music he loves and you will see him enjoy the rhythm just as much as the people on the dance floor.

    Questions

    1. What makes you laugh?

“Dry sarcasm, self deprecating humour and the neverending randomness of the internet”

    2. Most exciting club moment?

“This is really hard for me to single out. I'm a raver at heart, so almost all my musical influence comes from club experiences. As a DJ, I vividly remember my first few sets a Sisyphos in Berlin, where I was just blown away by the feedback and energy from the crowd.”

    3. What keeps you going?

“Hi-hats. Doesn't matter which side of the booth I'm standing, if a crisp and snappy hi-hat comes in, my inner battery gets a jolt of energy. “

    4. You in 10 years?

“I'm a big nerd who loves technology, programming and all that good stuff - and my dream has always been to do something that combines music and technology. Not sure what form that will take, though.”

    5. What do you listen to besides electronic music?

“I listen to lots of hip-hop, from very old-school to some of the new stuff. If you're interested, now and again I play a hip-hop set on Chill-out floors as Lil Hill (ha!).”

    6. What makes dance music so special to you?

“Probably the thing that people who don't like electronic music find most annoying: the repetitiveness. The ever-building and constantly changing loop that makes you forget time. “

    7. What you can’t stand?

“Bad sound in a club. I never understood how you can open a club and not have that be a major priority. If the sound quality is bad, I find it hard to enjoy whatever great things the club might have to offer.”

    Spieltape

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Alexander MalyutinLocation: Arkhangelsk, Russia

    Biography

Renowned as one of his country’s most respected purveyors of quality-fuelled house and techno, Alexander Malyutin aka Spieltape, is a man on the rise. A native of Arkhangelsk, Russia, he started his career back in 2005, with his early tracks perking the ears of none other than owners of Global Underground, who immediately snapped him up for their scene-shaping label.
The intervening years have proved just as fruitful, as Spieltape has turned in cuts for the likes of Sasse’s Moodmusic, Kruse & Nuernberg’s Save Room, Acumen’s Time Has Changed, Solee’s Parquet Recordings as well as the mighty Get Physical Music. Added to all this is the not-so-small matter of Alexander’s very own label, Highway Records, which he co-runs with compatriot, Mike Spirit. Partly responsible for ushering in a whole new era of Russian electronic music fans, the label’s agenda spans far and wide — a fact that’s indicative of a roster that’s includes the likes of Adriatique, Alex Niggemann, Hector, Gui Boratto and Gorge over the years.
And it’s far from just the aforementioned names that can get down with Spieltape’s grooves. Indeed, many of his tracks have picked up plaudits from some of the scene’s most reputable international names, with Richie Hawtin, John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Marco Carola, M.A.N.D.Y., Hot Since 82, Lee Burridge, DJ T., Eats Everything, Subb-an and Pleasurekraft among those who’ve voiced their approval.
Further proof of the man’s production appeal lies in the fact that both Nick Warren and Luca Bacchetti have included his music on their compilations, with Spieltape’s tracks playing pertinent roles in both Balance 018 and Arkitekt 02 respectively.
In 2015 Spieltape remixed the classic track “Sunset (Bird of Prey)” by none other that Fatboy Slim for a special 15th anniversary edition of his platinum album “Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars”.
In addition to his production credits, Spieltape is also a relentlessly busy touring DJ. A star-turn at Red Bull Music Academy’s ‘Bass Camp’, he’s also plied his trade at the likes of the legendary Kazantip Festival and the Sochi Winter Music Conference. Some of the scene’s most respected clubs have come under his spell too, with Arma 17 and Propaganda in Moscow, Suicide Circus in Berlin, and Volar in Hong Kong all getting the Spieltape treatment. With his best days ahead of him, these are heady times indeed for one of Russia’s most talented electronic music artists.

    Salvo Salvatore

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Salvo SalvatoreLocation: Berlin, Germany

    Biography

From the beginning Salvo Salvatore has been an inherent part of Klangkost and the DJ- and producer-project robot:rebbelion. Only recently he began his way through the club jungle as a solo Deep House DJ.

    Questions

    1. What keeps you going?

“Each time I play a DJ Set together with happy people who enjoy the music. It gives me a feeling of being entranced by the dissolving of social boarders between ‘me and you’. I want that feeling to progress until it climaxes into a great night with lots of joy. It’s very fulfilling to have this opportunity to spend my time with people who want to share that feeling.“

    2. How would you describe your sound?

“During the set it can go from tender to ruff, so it’s like good sex. It’s groovy and always a little dirty, it can get very emotional for me because each track counts.”

    3. What distinguishes you and your music from other artists?

“To be honest I don’t consider myself as a very unique specialty, because of WHAT I play as a DJ. The great difference for me is HOW I perform my set. Not only as a DJ but as a person who embodies the sound that he plays. I love DJs where you can see that they love what they play during their performance. “

    4. What do you listen to besides electronic music?

“Before I started as a House-DJ I was a reggae MC for a Sound system. When I feel like I need a rest, Roots Reggae and Dancehall are my first choice alternative. Besides that I am always interested into Sounds that bend the boarders of the contemporary genre patterns.”

    5. What kind of people do you really appreciate?

“I love to play games on other DJs while they perform. For example: On an Open Air I hung out behind Kollektiv Ost with a sweet friend of mine from a booking agency. I had a tiny water gun hidden and shot at their legs. Each time they turned around we acted like nothing happened. After the first shot we made a pose like James Bond to tease them by revealing ourselves in a funny way. That made them laugh and tolerate our infantile behavior. These kind of people I can stand!”

    6. What makes dance music so special for you?

“By the age of 16 I started to go out regularly to clubs in Berlin. That was during the pioneer days of the 90s. I used to go to the old Tresor on Wednesdays and quickly experienced the mind shifting force of the music these days. I didn’t do anything that could be considered as a drug but after dancing in the cellar all night my state of mind was shifted into a very pleasurable way. I want to point out it was without drugs and just the music.”

    Questions

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“I think my sound bears my own distinctive character, which is hard to describe. It is all about groove and swing. Also I'm addicted to Hi-Hats. Principally I don't need more than reduced loops to try to build up a mesmerizing tension.”

    2. How did you learn producing?

“In the end of the 90’s I got in touch with drum machines and stuff like that for the first time. The only thing I’ve understood was the principle of a sequencer. Everything else was all Greek to me. Later I tried first steps with propeller head software, Cubase and a Yamaha rm1-x but in the end I’ve been everything but a pioneer these days. In 2008 I’ve got to know Ableton live and found some lads who let me take a look over their shoulders patiently. From these days on I try to improve myself.”

    Questions

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“I would describe my sound as house with a focus on the underground. I can play both deep house and tech house in my sets depending on where I am playing and the vibe but it’s usually with a nod to the old school jackin sounds and the occasional acid house gem.”

    2. Most exciting club moment?

“Would probably have to be playing the closing set in the Discoteca at Space in Ibiza after James Zabiela for his Birthday celebration. It was a huge honour to play at such a seminal club on my favourite island but also to be invited by James himself to play was a particularly proud moment and a mark of respect from such an awesome talent. Something I will never forget.”

    3. Where did you learn producing?

“I was always a DJ before I was a producer. I realised quickly that producing your own tracks and creating your own unique sound was essential if I wanted to raise my profile and further my career. I started out working with others in the studio, bringing in samples and ideas. Over time learned and started to practice making tracks on my own. I was already familiar with Ableton from doing studio mixes and my own edits of tracks, so after a while I became self-sufficient. I still send my tracks off to be professionally mastered though, depending on which label signs them. To be honest I am still learning everyday. There are always new techniques and plugins to learn.”

    4. Favourite track of the moment/all time?

“My favourite track at the moment is actually one of my own called ‘Precinct 13’ which has just been signed to Hector Couto’s label Roush. It’s a solid slice of old school influenced house with a large helping of rave. It’s been smashing my sets recently and also features in the mix for the site. Definitely one of my own I am particularly proud of.
My favourite track of all time is ‘New Order – Blue Monday’. It’s a seminal track that I will always list as a huge influence in my musical career and a massive source of inspiration for me personally. This track is the biggest selling 12" single of all time and when you hear it you know exactly why. The distinctive 16th note kick drum intro, programmed on an Oberheim DMX, followed by the slightly out of time sequencer melody is absolutely unmistakable and one of the most recognisable starts to a track ever known. I will never forget the first time I heard it. Truly one of the best tracks ever made and I still play it in my sets to this day.”

    5. Favourite DJ Setup?

“At the moment I usually play using USB’s and 2 Pioneer CDJ 900’s or 2000’s however I also sometimes use Traktor if I need to sync to Ableton for our Spektre Live shows.”

    6. Where would you love to play live?

“I’ve been an Ibiza regular since 2000 and dc10 is my favourite club in the world. It would be an absolute dream of mine to play on the terrace there. Carsten Rausch

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Carsten RauschLocation: Berlin, Germany

    Biography

1977 born Carsten Rausch grew up in Trier/Germany. When he started DJ’ing at the age of 16, he quickly made a name for himself in and around his hometown. It didn’t took very long until people recognized his talent to create these special moments on the dancefloor with his mixture of House and Techno, transferring the energy onto the floor to build a connection between DJ and crowd. He has been a part of the electronic music scene for the last two decades, DJ’ing and promoting from the early nineties before moving into the studio and starting to release records in 2007, working with labels such as Acker, Agora Audio, Rrygular, Kassette, Resopal, Stylerockets and others.
His releases instantly got plays from DJs like Karotte, David Labeij, Doomwork, Florian Meindl, Andre Crom, Todd Bodine, Lauhaus, Someone Else and many others.
In 2012 he left his hometown and moved to Berlin to dive deeply into the pulsating House and Techno scene.

    Questions

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“I leave it to others to label my sound. For me it is something between House and Techno. Sometimes more House, sometimes a bit more Techno and sometimes somewhere in between. But whatever you may call it, I think it always has a good groove because that is really important to me! When a track doesn’t have a nice groove, it’s crap!

    2. Favourite DJ Setup?

    “2x Technics SL 1210 Mk2, 2x Pioneer CDJ 2000, Allen & Heath Xone 92.”

    3. Favourite track at the moment/all time?

“Right now one of my favourite tracks is “Kink – Pocket Piano (Breakbeat Mix)”. This tune reminds me of the good old stuff from the 90s when I started DJ’ing. To pick an all time favourite track is a really hard job. I guess I cannot decide. There was and there is too much good music out there!”

    4. Dream collab?

“I would really love to produce a Hip Hop Beat with DJ Premier. I was always fascinated by the way he worked with samples and his Akai MPC.”

    5. What do you listen to besides electronic music?

“Before I fell in love with House and Techno Music, I was a big fan of Hip Hop. At home I still enjoy to listen to the stuff I grew up with like Nas, De La Soul, A Tribe called Quest, Wu Tang Clan, Gang Starr and all that other good Hip Hop stuff from the 90s. But there is so much more music out there that I like: Soul, Jazz, Drum n’ Bass, Reggae, Dancehall, Punk, Hardcore. I can find good Songs or Tracks in almost every genre that exists.”

    6. What keeps you going?

“The love for the music and the feeling when the crowd responses to your DJ Set and you recognize that there is a connection between you and the people on the dancefloor.
And of course the fun that I have when sitting in the studio and producing a track that gives me the feeling that I want to dance instantly to it in my studio.”

    7. What do you think about DIT KLINGT JUT?

“I think the guys have a great concept. It’s always nice to see that people try to support music in general and the artists as well. There are so many DJs and Producers out there, especially in the House and Techno scene that it becomes harder and harder to grap peoples attention. So I’m very happy that the guys asked me to be part of this! And of course I’m very thankful for their support.”

    Biography

Patryk was born near Berlin in the middle of the 80s and started early to develop a deep relationship to music.
He has always felt very close to electronic music. But it was not before his 18th birthday that the passion grew so strong that he tried his own productions.
In the beginning using LoFi equipment he tried to transfer music of any kind into his very own productions. Back then he has been strongly influenced by the Big Beat scene in England and Vienna Scientists like Kruder & Dorfmeister.
He tried out different styles until he discovered the house scene. He decided to get his own equipment and to share the music that he admires so much with others. Soon he developed an affection for Deep and French house.
Bit by bit the minimalistic sounds hit him and he worked full of enthusiasm on his first minimalistic productions.
His tracks are strongly influenced by the flourishing and always self reinventing Berlin night life. Artists like Dyed Soundorom, Nekes, Boris Werner and Michael Melchner are currently among those that influence him most.

    Questions

    1. Favorite track at the moment/all time?

“It is very difficult to choose favorite tunes, because there is a lot of good music out there. At the moment I hear/play the latest stuff from HIVER a lot. „Egeo“ is pretty cool. My all-time favorite tune is definitely BONE THUGS-N HARMONY - 1st Of Tha Month (Kruder & Dorfmeister Remixes Part I & II). The remixes gave me so much in all my special moments in my life. I guess these re-interpretations are the most relaxing songs of all time.”

    2. Dream collab?

“I´m a huge fan of K&D and from the beginning I dreamed of a collaboration with Kruder & Dorfmeister. They did their own thing in a time when it was much more difficult to release your own music. They did a great job and their music is still timeles.”

    7. Next release?

“My next EP will be released on RITTER BUTZKE STUDIO this summer. I´m very happy to publish my music on that record label. MARIO AUREO, label head of RBS, does a really good job and it is like a family for me. It is a EP with four tracks, 3 originals and one remix. I am really looking forward to this…keep your ears open!”

    8. Patryk about his music:

"I love groovy, shaky things and I always try to transfer this into my productions. Tracks do not always have to be danceable or made for clubbing. They can simply be for listening and communicating a certain groove.
The most important thing is that they reflect what you felt while producing them and that they relate to yourself."

    Nick_edited_small

    Nick Ostertag

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Nick OstertagLocation: Leeds, United Kingdom

    Biography

After nearly a decade behind the UK DJ scene, Nick has accomplished a great position within the Industry. From a young age this pioneering talent brought a fresh outlook on the current music trends in the UK.
Now with his career at a new level, and the launch of his exquisite new House & Garage label 'Domino Effect', he's considering carefully his next move up the table towards stardom. His quality of production in House music, and his acquired taste for the love of Bass driven electronic genres, be it House or Garage is propelling him further afield across the globe.
After being signed to labels such as Destination? Records, Love Not Money, and his own imprint Domino Effect, his movement from Electro Filth towards the Deeper, Bassier House & Old Skool sounds of Speed Garage is the intent to fuse old and new together for the perfect form of club music.

    Questions

Interview from S. Jay & Ostertag:

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“I think our sound is Garage with house elements, but done in a tasteful way. We have listened to garage and speed garage since time began, so it was the perfect genre we wanted to incorporate us into when we started. But because nobody dances to 138 bpm no more and we also had a love for house we decided to try to gel the 2 together thus creating our sound.”

    2. Most exciting club moment?

“I’d say our best club moment didn’t actually happen in a club! We have had so many brilliant times in clubs but our stand out sets have been at the festivals Zandfoort, which is the cloud festival for deep house database, Londrina Brazil, where we played on the groovedose stage, and Maputo Mozambique, the gloom festival. All these where part of our domino effect tour! Each one seemed to make us grow and we learned so much. Also the crowds were absolutely on point! Hanging off every track and actually dancing, not being moody twats.

    3. How did you learn producing?

“Well I (S. Jay) have been producing since I was about 16. My friend got reason and showed it to me, which just blew me away! Not long after he got Ableton and I fell in love with it even more. But back then I was more into event organizing so I didn’t really put a lot of time in. I started taking it more serious when I was 21 and started really focusing on it. Grinding every day to try learn new things and get a crisp sound, I also put out quite a lot of rubbish but was learning along the way! Everything I know I taught myself apart from learning a few essential tips from my friends Nick Hannam, Dene Antony and Chris Gresswell! I used to chill with them, we started doing collabs and I clicked onto what I was missing in my tracks even though they used different software than me! They are very talented guys. Also Alex Lister helped me out a lot! I was forever sending unfinished poorly made tracks like ''what you think of this'' and been the gentleman he is, he always listened to it and gave me constructive criticism which really helped!”

    4. Favorite track at the moment/all time?

“Well with the amount of brilliant music been pushed out at the minute our favorite changes every week. I suppose if we had to pick a favorite of all time it would be “Fatima Rainey - Hey (Mount Rushmore Deep Vocal Mix”. What can you say about this track apart from perfection? We both love it and still play it to this day.”

    5. Dream collab?

“Well I (S. Jay) have actually already done my own personal one when we did our collab with my now good friend Rich Wakely (Filthy Rich). I was a fan of his sound for years and then one day Ostertag introduced me, as they had been friends for years and boom Smoking Mirrors.”

    6. Favorite DJ Setup?

“It has to be Pioneer CDJ 2000 and a DJM 950. Also a sick function sound system or similar always helps!”

    7. What keeps you going?

“We get a lot of support from our friends and family, who have had to put up with loud music late at night. But also mainly all the feedback from our listeners and fans. It makes it so much easier to have zero free time and be busy until early in the morning when people interact and leave such nice feedback. Must say support from some DJ we have major respect helps as well.”

    8. What makes you laugh?

“Everything! We are always joking around and doing stupid stuff. There’s never a dull moment in the Domino HQ.”

    9. You in 10 years?

“Hopefully doing what we are doing now. Since we started our Domino Anniversary Tour our eyes got opened and we see the potential of what you can actually do with music and what a brilliant time you can have doing it! If we keep plugging away like we have, hopefully Domino will become a respected label.”

    10. What distinguishes you and your music from other artists?

“We try to keep to our own ''domino sound'' from the day we started SJNO and Domino Effect. We have been really pushing a new sound, which leads onto the next question.”

    11. Who will considerably give direction to the deep house scene soon?

“We have a few budding artists within the domino team. Ste E & evasiv are really doing the rounds for us and have been on tour with us for the last few months, so I think these 2 would be stand out for ones to watch in the near future.”

    12. Digital Audio Workstation?

    “Ableton all the way!”

    13. Where would you love to play live?

“I think we have played in a lot of places we really wanted to already, but I think our Ibiza debut is going to be a big one. A load of our friends do seasons and make regular trips to Ibiza so it would be cool to play over there.”

    14. What do you think about DIT KLINGT JUT?

“We think they have a great brand and they are a professional outfit! We didn’t have to think very long when asked to do an Introduction, because of how well run it looks.”

    15. What makes dance music so special to you?

“We just love music in a whole but when growing up in Leeds in our circles and getting to witness some of the best DJs in the world play regular it really inspires you to want to put out your love in music into something and make your own mark on the thing we love.”

    16. What is your trademark?

“I would probably say our garage reese basses and skippy drums are our trade mark. Also sexy groovy basslines with trippy yet erotic vocals.”

    17. Next release?

“Our next releases are a remix on Great Stuff Records and a remix on White Widow. The dates aren’t confirmed yet.”

    18. What you can’t stand?

“Bitchiness, arrogance and people who ask for stupid requests during a house set.”

    ➨ Quote

“In music and in life, disobedience is the true foundation of freedom.”

    Questions

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“It’s a constantly evolving cesspool of influences. I can’t make the same record twice, I feel like I’ve got to create something new and distinct with every production and remix.”

    2. Most exciting club moment?

“This is a hard one. I had so many good times over the years, but popping my DC10 cherry this year was really cool. Met up with Josh Butler and went daft in Circoloco.”

“’Bill Withers - Lovely Day’. I can’t help trying to hold that long ‘day’ when it’s on in the car.”

    4. Dream collab?

    “Jimmy Hendrix.”

    5. Favorite DJ Setup?

“I like my kit at home: two SL1210’s, Xone92 and Traktor. Love playing real wax as well as mp3’s. All with a touch and feel on vinyl and all sync turned off and no BPM/phase meter. This keeps you sharp.”

    6. What keeps you going?

“Fresh coffee. I have an Italian Espresso machine at the studio that does the trick.”

“I taught myself, I’ve always tried to make music with whatever was around. I’ve played keyboard and guitar from an early age. 11. Who will considerably give direction to the deep house scene soon?

“I have a feeling that it’s going to be people like Apollonia and Dixon. I’m hearing people sway toward techno-influences but there is no place for it to develop. 17. Next release?

“I have an EP coming on Love Not Money, which is a great label I’ve had the opportunity to work with for some time now. There are some great mixes on the pack, very excited about it.”

    18. What can’t you stand?

“Music Piracy. Playing pirated music is really just saying you don’t care or love the music.”

    19. Who are your ones to watch in 2015?

"For me its got to be Kreature, Truth Be Told and Jonny Cade... all super talented and making real distictive house music."

I suppose if we had to pick a favorite of all time it would be “Fatima Rainey - Hey (Mount Rushmore Deep Vocal Mix)”.

    Atlas Boda

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Ryan Keenan Location: Liverpool, United Kingdom

    Biography

I am a 22 year old producer from Liverpool, United Kingdom. I first started learning how to produce when I was 16 years old and wasn’t until around 18 till I made my first track. Back then I was more interested in jump up drum and bass & the deeper sort of dubstep, loving the tracks with the dark eerie sounds to them which I think translates into my music today. Time passed and I began hearing more deep/tech sort of tracks and had a massive love for artists such as Shadow Child and Dusky. I began to start knuckling down with my music since last August with my first two originals ‘Room 205’ & ‘Sprite’ and have been working hard ever since! My name comes from my big interest in Greek mythology and Atlas was the character that stood out to me.

    Questions

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“I’m still trying to find my sound but I try to capture an element of darkness within my original tracks. I wouldn’t want my tracks to be described as happy, feel good music that I feel some of my previous tracks have been. I think my upcoming track ‘The Panther’ describes this better than I can!”

    2. Favorite track at the moment/all time?

“My favorite track at the moment is the Shadow Child remix of ‘Right now’ by Mary J. Blige. What my favorite track of all time is, is a tough question! It’s a tie between Careless by Dusky and the Hot Since 82 remix of bigger than prince.”

    3. Dream collab?

“My dream collab would be with Shadow Child. One of my biggest influences!”

    4. What keeps you going?

“I attend a lot of tech house nights that feature the artists that inspire me and just watching them play to such a huge crowd, who are loving the music, gives me such a drive to get making new stuff.”

    5.You in 10 years?

“The dream is to just have people know my name and have heard my music. A big goal is to travel around the world and play my stuff. Also to be involved in a festival, maybe Creamfields, which is one of the biggest dance festivals in the UK!”

    6. What do you listen to besides electronic music?

“I love anything acoustic and particularly like Boyce Avenue and the acoustic covers they do. I also love swing music and can listen to Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra all day!”

    7. How did you learn producing?

“I learned producing purely through practicing and watching tutorials. In addition I learned the basics of how to use my DAW, which helped me when it came to changing my style of music throughout the years.”

    8. Who will considerably give direction to the deep house scene soon?

“Hard to say! I couldn’t pinpoint a particular artist however just as how deep house has blown up the past year, maybe there’ll be a big influx of tech fans next.”

    9.Favorite DJ Setup?

“Just the industry standard Pioneer 2000’s & DJM 2000 is good enough for me!”

    10. Digital Audio Workstation?

“I’ve always used Fl studio for my music, never really experimented with any others!”

    11. Where would you love to play live?

“Funnily enough I’ve always wanted to play in Berlin! I read a lot about the amazing clubs over there.”

    12. What makes dance music so special to you?

“I love the energy and how it can put people into a trance. Time passes very quickly when you’re listening to good music.”

    13. What is your trademark?

“My tracks are very bass orientated so I guess that’s what people can expect of me!”

    14. Next release?

“My next track being released is ‘The Panther’, however there isn’t a set date yet! I’m also working towards a 4 track EP at the moment with a friend of mine doing some techno remixes of the originals!”

    15. What do you think about DIT KLINGT JUT?

“I think it’s a great concept and way of getting good quality productions heard no matter the fame of the artist. Glad to be involved!”

    JU’GO

    Quick Facts

Full Name: Julien & IngoLocation: Berlin, Germany

    Biography

"Ju'Go"! This is pumping heavy G-House, the black site and melodic deep-house, the white site. The absolute Ying and Yang! With the E.W.I. they put their own touch both sides. The Berlin boys Julien and Ingo are the two behind Ju'Go. Pure, genuine and always on it to kick your ass with dope beats!

    Questions

    1. How would you describe your sound?

“Our sound consists of two components. On the one hand there is our deep side, on the other hand there is our G-House side. We like to play and produce both of them. Of course you can put more emotions and variations in the deeper work which is fittingly convenient to Ingo.
We would eventually describe our sound as a mix between both of them.”

    2. What is your trademark?

“Speaking of red hair and the sigmatism...
We think our trademark is Ingo’s E.W.I. as well as Julien’s comprehension of the turntable.
We often get to hear that our selection of vinyls/tracks and Ingo’s E.W.I. entrances are fitting very well.”

    3. What keeps you going?

“There are several things driving us. Of course, you want to be successful, but how do you define “success”? To us, it’s already a little achievement when people come to us after a gig and bear their hearts to us regarding how greatly the music was touching them and how much they enjoyed it. But what drives us most is to see how our skills improve from time to time.”

    4. What makes you laugh?

“A morbid sense of humor and ambiguities. We are generally a very humorous duo. We talk shit and laugh a lot. It’s always been like that and it will stay like it as we think. We also like to hose each other, I mean look at us: The one’s got red hair and the other’s got a slight sigmatism.”

    5. Where would you love to play?

“To be honest, we didn’t really think about that yet. There are a lot of beatiful places but what counts in the end is the crowd. And that can be great everywhere! But if you would ask us for a particular place, then we would say an Open Air with a panorama view on a nice natural backdrop is where we would love to play.”

    6. How did you learn producing?

“We taught producing to ourselves bit by bit. Ingo is more focussing on the meoldical part while Julien is more responsible for the technical work. We do switch the allocation sometimes but it’s mostly as just mentioned. We still learn from project to project, so we wouldn’t call ourselves fully trained profis.”

    7. What you can’t stand?

“We hate „DJ ́s“ who don’t have their own style and mix one genre after on another….HORRENDOUS!
Furthermore, we can’t stand producers who became fame through Bootlegs and Edits only and can’t convince with their own work. There are several names coming to our minds, but we don’t want to start a beef here…or do we? ;) It’s enough to say that there has already been a SoundCloud profile deleted because of those things.”

“Our next releases we scheduled for early 2015 are a single on our Imprint "Safe Music" in January and an EP on Riva Starr's label “Snatch! Records” (release date tba) as well as some remixes for Dino Lenny and David Herrero. But we worked hard, so prepare for a surprise in 2015! Follow us on our socials to stay up to date.”

    4. How did you learn producing?

"Honestly we learned everything ourselves, simply to take a lot of cues from many masters
of this world as "Kenny Dope, Todd Terry, Dennis Ferrer, Maw” and more. We obviously learned
many things about software and hardware by watching some video-tutorials. But it doesn’t really
matter where and how u made the sounds. What does matter is the final result!"

    5. Favorite track at the moment/all time?

"Yeah nice question. Definitely two of our most favorite tracks all time are
"Brighter Days (Underground Goodie Mix)” by Cajmere and the legendary song of Marshall Jefferson
"Move Your Body" which we reworked in 2011 and which was licensed on Ultra Records with all official reworks that year."

    6. Favorite Dj Setup?

"Our favorite DJ setup was and still is the classic Dj setup: Mixer + 2 CDJs, because we
love the real contact to the music (that only CDJs or Vinyls can give you). No digital interfaces,
no FX Machines. Our sets are simple and the importang thing to us is the selection of tracks and
the technique of mixing them. We think that we will never abandon using CDJs or Vinyls."

    7. What keeps you going?

"Well, of course our real passion towards this music is one of the most substantial reasons
that are keeping us in the business. There are a lot of up’s and down’s but if you’re 100%
loving the music, nothing and nobody can stop you!"

    ➨ Quote

"It is not important how, where and when u made your music. The right and proper sounds will be even remembered and appreciated in the coming years."
